02 MICRO PR ANNOUNCES GRANT OF SMART CARD PATENT

SANTA CLARA, Calif. & GEORGE TOWN, Grand Cayman--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 17, 2006--O2Micro® International Limited (NASDAQ:OIIM - News), a leading supplier of innovative power management, and security components and systems for the Computer, Consumer, Industrial, and Communications markets, was granted 16 claims under United States patent number 6,978,335 for its Smart Card Virtual Hub invention.

The patented hub enables computer systems with Smart Card based security applications through a preferred USB interface. The highly integrated architecture utilizes USB protocols to communicate with the Smart Card, without consuming a USB port on the target system. Further integration includes analog power circuitry to distribute power to USB peripheral ports and to supply industry standard voltages to the Smart Card.
